New WSRN Visitor Information

Welcome to the New WSRN - Secondary Site
The primary website for the WSRN is www.wsrn3.org - and www.wsrn.org is the secondary site, in case you cannot access the primary. If you are visiting the www.wsrn3.org or www.wsrn.org websites for the first time, please take the time to read all of the infornmation below before proceeding. If you are just here as a guest, or wanting to download the freely available static files (Rinex et al) then proceed to the first section below about how to log in as a guest

How to Log-in as a Guest User
Guest user access is available for general WSRN information and static file downloads such as Rinex, through the Reference Data Shop by logging in as a guest user. From the login link, enter 'guest' for Organization, enter 'guest' for User Name, and enter 'guest' for Password, all lowercase. Follow the instructions for Reference Data Shop Orders carefully, you can place orders, logout and come back later to download them by logging in as a guest, first noting the time and number of your order placement. Real-time correction services of the WSRN are restricted to registered partners and subscribers. If you wish to access real-time services follow the 'Join the WSRN' link on the left side of the page

How to Log-in to this website as a Registered User
Current registered users (e.g. Partners and Subscribers) will be able to log in to this website with the username and password they have for real-time access (i.e your NTRIP credentials). But for this web site you will need to enter an organization name. The current primary caster for real-time services (the full IP is emailed to registered users) looks like this: XXX.XXX.XXX.108 and the current reference framework is NAD83-2011 Epoch 2010.00) and a secondary caster with n I.P. that looks like this: XXX.XXX.XXX.121 (the full IP is emailed to rewgistered users) is also on the same reference framework

How to Log-in to casters for real-time corrections as a Registered User
Current registered users (e.g. Partners and Subscribers) will be able to log in to both a primary and secondary caster for rela-time corrections(i.e. for thier field rovers). The current primary caster for real-time services(the full IP and port is emailed to registered users) looks like this: XXX.XXX.XXX.108 and the current reference framework is NAD83-2011 Epoch 2010.00) and a secondary caster with an I.P. that looks like this: XXX.XXX.XXX.121 (the full IP and port is emailed to rewgistered users) is also on the same reference framework. Field users can choose from the primary caster which has been nicknamed '108', and if they have any difficulties can choose the secondary caster nicknamed '121'.

How has the WSRN Changed? And Why?

Servers and Software Upgrade. The WSRN has been in operation since November of 2002, many of the original servers were over a decade old. To take advantage of newer VM server technology, enterprise database capabilities, and improved processing capabilites, new servers were purchased and implemented by Seattle Public Utilities as dedicated primary servers for the WSRN in 2011, and a new array of servers added and implemented as a secondary service in 2016. Our core software has undergone a major upgrade, essentially to a new platfrom. The new look for the website only scratches the surface of the potential of this new platform. Now that the WSRN has gone from the expansion phase to statewide coverage, operations will be able to concentrate on enabling many of the new features and improvements that these new servers and platform can offer.

Statewide Coverage The WSRN now has coverage for all of Washington State. With the addition of several stations along the canadian border, and several coastal sites, there are only a few 'holes' in the network, like the proposed Stehekin site.

Glonass and Other Constellation Upgrades. Over the past six years, and partially through a grant via the USGS, the WSRN stations have been upgraded to full multi-constellation capable receivers. With the exception of a few PBO stations that are GPS-only, all are now GLN capable, with most ready for future constellations and signals like L2C and L5. With the ability to do 'sparse glonass' network solutions in the vicinity of the few GPS-only sites, users in the field can take advantage of GLN anywhere the network has coverage.

Communications Upgrades. The next phase of WSRN upgrades will be to improve communications at sites with 'spotty' connectivity, like RPUB(Republic), OCEN (Ocean Shores), NWPT (Newport), OTHL (Othello), etc. Existing and new WSRN partners are funding new comms for these and other sites. We expect this phase to take about a year.

Accounting and Agreements. Along with the technological upgrades to the WSRN there is a new accounts system. No existing registered services or agreements will change until renewal time, but new agreements and accounts will be managed with revised agreement boilerplates. These changes are to better manage accounts, provide internal controls, and to replace some obsolete procedures. The old system was not very efficient; this is a good opportunity to upgrade. Existing 90 day test accounts started on the legacy servers will be honored until their expiration. New test accounts will be managed in the new system. If you are a past test account user that wishes to join the WSRN please contact the WSRN directly (see contacts below) to discuss partnership or subscriber options.

New Subnet. The WSRN had originally been divided into 5 subnets: Eastern, Southeastern, Southwestern, Puget, and Northwest. These subnets divide the state into functional areas with specific tectonic and atmospheric characteristics for optimal management and to yield more consistent results. A new sizth subnet has been added to cover the coastal region

The six WSRN subnets are now prefixed PRSN (Puget), EWA (Eastern), SEWA (Southeastern), SWWA (Southwestern), NWWA (Northwest), and the new PACWA (Coast). The prefixes are used in the respective mounpoints for network correction styles of each subnet, for example PRSNVRSCMR is the CMR+ mountpoint for the Puget subnet, and SWWAVRSRTCM3 is the RTCM3 mountpoint for the SW subnet. Test of a single network source covering the whole state have been promising; the new platform makes this option possible; further tests in coming months may see the launch of a single network option.
